I suggest choosing a solution that accomplishes only what you need. It is easy to get excited about features and imagine changing your workflow to make use of the bells and whistles of some solutions.
I've used JIRA, which is good as far as more complex systems go. I would only use it within a larger organization that needs to make use of custom workflows. For smaller teams I can recommend either Lighthouse or Basecamp, depending on the nature of the project. I prefer lighthouse as a simple ticketing system that keeps track of who is doing what without much visibility into context (eg for maintaining a product, fixing bugs, etc). I prefer Basecamp for projects where the developers have more of a high level picture and need to see how what they are working on fits into the larger whole (eg, developing a new product.) Others will have their favorites, and I'm sure they are all fantastic. The key is whether it locks into your workflow, whether your team chooses to use it properly, and the extent to which your project manager stays on top of everything. -james -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of David Skinner Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2015 8:44 AM To: uphpu Subject: [UPHPU] Project Management Good morning friends, I was wondering what tools are used to manage projects. Our company doesn't really have one. I've been using Trello, and it's been sufficient. But I still wonder if there are better tools out there. I've searched around on Google a bit, but I'm wondering what tools are used by the community (if any). Features I'm looking for (to name a few): - Simple way to add todo items, whether attached to a project or not - See status of a todo item - See status of overall project, current road blocks, upcoming milestones - Projected timeline - Maybe some integration with Github Thanks in advance for your input! - David Skinner _______________________________________________ UPHPU mailing list [email protected] http://uphpu.org/mailman/listinfo/uphpu IRC: #uphpu on irc.freenode.net _______________________________________________ UPHPU mailing list [email protected] http://uphpu.org/mailman/listinfo/uphpu IRC: #uphpu on irc.freenode.net
