Before you say ‘oh great, some idea guy looking for someone to build their product for them’, keep reading before you jump to that conclusion – it’s definitely not that. I think this is a pretty unique opportunity for one of you. If not right for you, please share with a friend.
Full Posting here: https://medium.com/@DannyFellars/technical-partner-at-openside-studios-8234c95fb83a Copied for your inline reading pleasure: Technical Partner at Openside Studios TLDR: I’m looking for a technical partner to work with to build a Product Studio. This is not a job, this is a partner position. This comes with competitive pay but will also have co-founder equity and status potential in an interesting model of building our own products plus building complex web based applications for our partners. Must know how to architecture complex software systems and present well in front of clients. This will require a good mix of coding, managing a team, and dealing with clients. Local (utah) preferred, but open to remote. Apply here <https://openside.typeform.com/to/DaZzS8> . History I began my entrepreneurial journey a few years ago. I had just left a situation where I was CEO and had to lay off good people I had hired once we decided to merge with another company; ironically just a few short months later I was the one being let go. This was a company I was hired into and so the company culture and model was set long before I joined. We were working hard to change that, but it was a slow process. Once I was let go, I had a chance to re-evaluate my career and where I wanted to go next. I chose to take my destiny into my own hands and go off on my own. Nobody in my immediate network was in the same situation at the time, so I decided to go at it alone; which was probably a good thing as I was a long ways off from having any steady revenue stream that could support multiple families. Fast forward to now, I’ve been able to get things to where I bring in sufficient revenue to provide a comfortable living for my family (I’m sole provider for a family of six) as well as make enough to now bring on a partner. What I’m looking for So, I’m now looking to find that ideal partner to help me take this to the next level. I’m a solid mix of technology and business (please check my profile here <https://www.linkedin.com/pub/dan-danny-fellars/2/120/a69> ). I’ve developed all the projects almost entirely on my own. I’m now at the point I have sufficient work to help another techie live out their dream of controlling their own destiny. That’s where I hope you come in. I’m looking for someone to share this ride with. I’m not just looking for programmer, I’m looking for a true co-founder/partner. Someone who wants to build a company that will become his/her identity & brand for years to come. I have big plans to build something truly special, but that doesn’t blind me from what needs to be done today to move things forward. Right now, most everything I do is web-based, backend dashboard like systems. Eventually we will add a mobile component to the platform. Everything is B2B and often involves solving complex problems. I’ve bootstrapped everything to this point with my own funds and own 100% of it, which means I’m in a pretty unique situation where I can offer you not only a steady paycheck each month, but also be able to offer co-founder status AND co-founder equity as well depending on the situation. I haven’t seen opportunities like this very often, so if you think you’d be the right fit, I’d encourage you to just take a chance on me and reach out. About You You’ve been the go-to gal or guy at your work when things need to get done. You like to manage a project and help a team accomplish its goals. But you also like to roll up your sleeves and write some code or configure a server as well. You enjoy the challenge of working with ambiguity and molding it into something tangible. You like being involved in all aspects of the product technology stack. You take ownership of the products you build to make them as successful as possible by being a team player and seeking feedback and being open to other’s input. You’re someone that clients can gain confidence in to rely upon. A plus would be a desire to get involved with the sales/marketing and/or other aspects of the company. Some technologies you need to be comfortable working with: PHP (Lithium framework), Javascript (Backbone.js, Handlebars.js), Bootstrap CSS, MongoDB, Node/Meteor. Remote will be considered, local (Utah) will be preferred. What we will be building Over the last few years, I’ve been busy building a web platform that incorporates all the common features needed to build complex web applications. It is tailored towards B2B, Data Heavy, SAAS-like applications. It’s sweet spot is integrating 3rd party APIs and data and bring it all together into a common platform to then build applications, reporting systems, analytics platforms on top of all that data. My business model is building and maintaining custom applications for partner companies, as well as launching our own products. For our clients, we are essentially act as an outsourced CTO. I now have a healthy mix of recurring product revenue plus on-going development services revenue. I call it a Product Studio approach. The products we build on our own will be grown to a state of proven market fit, then either sold, or spun out as their own company depending on the situation. You will have the opportunity to participate as an equity holder in those home-grown products. So far, I’ve built or am building a custom ERP for the Oil & Gas industry, an applications to analyze complex financial models, a custom Pipeline Management system for a VC firm, a marketing platform for multi-location marketing agency, and a portal for mortgage professionals. I’ve also launched my own competitive intelligence product. All of these applications are built on the same underlying platform. I haven’t lost a client yet since I’ve been doing this. I’m just now starting to expand into more clients as the platform has now been proven to work and is in production with multiple partners (I don’t even have a company website up yet, so plenty of easy opportunities to attract new business). About Me I was most recently an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at a top tier late stage VC firm while working on this company (which is a bit ironic since I have no current plans to raise VC money any time soon). Through that relationship I’ve been able to build a pretty solid network that I am just now starting to tap into for expanding into new business. Prior to that, I was CEO of a $12M healthcare technology & publishing company. After merging that company into a bigger one, I took on a VP of Strategic Development role for a short period. I cut my teeth in software building very popular multiplayer casual games for interactive television, phones, and internet. I graduated with a bachelors, Master in Computer Science, and MBA all without going into any debt — something I’m very proud of. I love sports and still play basketball 3 times a week. My family is what motivates me to succeed (wife + 4 kids). I feel I have a good balance of ambition, but with an unwillingness to risk it all to become successful, so have found this model to be a great mix of security but with significant upside potential. If they line up with what I’ve presented, just take a moment and fill out a few questions and I will be in touch.
