Sounds great, I think the portlet-dev list would be the place to post this though. Even better would be to post it as a Jira issue for the WPP.

Without this patch, you get errors if the proxied content is not secured with an authentic certificate. Its just some added code to one file and doesnt' need extra libs or anything else. All of our production servers interacting with the web proxy portlet are using valid certs, but this has been helpful for testing and development of the proxied content when real certs are not always readily available.
