There is no way to do a 1 to 1 mapping between git commits and svn commits but the sync script will copy over each logical group of git commits to the svn repo. The SVN commit message includes the git commit hash and commit subject for each git commit that is being synced. There is an example message at the bottom of this email.
We will NOT be copying tags back to SVN. GitHub provides a very nice way to download the uPortal source for any tag here: https://github.com/Jasig/uPortal/tags
