Using the network activity, I saw 4 requests, 2 posts/2 gets. The posts 
returned 0 B, the gets returned actual data.

I am using larval's restful controllers, and switched the controller function 
from post_functioname to get_functionname and set the ajax to use "GET" and 
that seemed to fix it.
