This is a shot in the dark, but we use BEIS to handle our Single Sign on from uPortal 3.2 to Ellucian Banner (formerly Sungard). The SSO process does not work in IE8, but if we check the box "Enable Protected Mode" in the Internet Options - security tab, it works as expected. It works fine in chrome and firefox too.
