Thanks for the info on the BYU efforts! I am going to move this over to the portlet-dev list.

Hi Andrew (and others at UWM),

I see you are making changes to the HRS Portlets project.

On behalf of BYU, we will soon be committing two new portlets to the HRS
Portlets project. Please review my commit at
https://github.com/jameswennmacher/hrs-portlets/commit/6b717ad2b9e46d301f8cf092d672f93f579acab0
and let me know if anything in there negatively impacts UWM's work or
direction in this project.

A few notes:
- The two portlets include Demo data sources so they can be bundled with
uPortal.
- I modified portlet.xml to obtain the loginId from the UserInfo as the
employeeId so the portlets would work in demo mode. I changed all the
existing portlet definitions in the portlet.xml likewise so they are all
consistent. I think we'd want that in place for other portlets as
well. Adopters will obviously have to customize this file anyway.
portletApplicationContext.xml now by default uses the standard Spring
class to get additional user roles instead of the UWM version requiring
a connection to Peoplesoft.
- (minor) At least on my local tomcat 7.0.39 instance, Tomcat wasn't
automatically finding the .tld files under the WEB-INF tags subfolder
(it would if the files were in the WEB-INF folder) so I declared the two
tlds these portlets use in the web.xml. I debated whether to include
all of the tlds (or leave them out to see if it is an issue at the
client site) but I added those needed for me (on my machine at least) at
the moment.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or if anything impacts UWM's
direction. I'll do a pull request later after we have a few more
changes in place.

Thanks,
