In working on the new version of layout.json
(https://github.com/Jasig/uPortal/pull/541), I noticed that the portlets
are invoked with portletWorkerThreads in the rendering pipeline in
minimized mode. This appears to be purely to set the "newItemCount"
property in the response
(https://issues.jasig.org/secure/attachment/14813/v1%20admin%20layout.json).
I verified with Oakland that uMobile does not use this property.
I plan on changing the json pipeline processing to not actually invoke
the portlets. I think the layout information should be purely
layout-related, and a portlet that wants to relay state information
should provide that information in a resource request or similar.
If you have concerns with me making this backwards-compatible-breaking
change, please let me know.
