and one of the world's leading user laboratories. With its 1200
employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss ETH
domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and
material sciences, elementary particle and astrophysics, energy and
environmental research as well as on biology and
medicine.
The Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institut
has a strong research program spanning the areas of tropospheric gas
and aerosol chemistry and physics as well as eco-system fluxes.
Your tasks:
The emphasis of the open position is to study secondary organic
aerosol formation in a reaction (smog) chamber. State-of-the-art
instrumentation is being used to monitor and characterize gaseous
oxidation processes and aerosol formation under simulated atmospheric
conditions. The research will focus on the newly discovered
polymerization in aerosols.
Education
Your profile
You have a Master degree in atmospheric sciences or a closely related
discipline and have good familiarity with atmospheric chemistry and
aerosol physics. The position requires
a high ability to interact with
faculty and other Ph.D. students conducting associated research at the
smog chamber. Basic programming skills are also required. You, as our
successful candidate, should be proficient in spoken and written
English and have basic knowledge in German.
We offer an up-to date research infrastructure, collaboration in an
international and interdisciplinary team, and the possibility to
receive the PhD from ETH Zurich.

Modelling of organic LEDs (PhD student position)
Company; EPFL
Workplace ;Nanophotonics and Metrology Laboratory
Description
This project is part of a large European effort led by major companies
active in organic light emitting diodes (LEDs).
In a first part of the project, the candidate will develop specific
tools for the simulation of light emission and propagation in LEDs
structures. These models will then be utilized to optimize light
extraction in different types of LEDs structures. In addition to
this
theoretical effort, some near-field experiments to validate the
different models will be performed on LEDs structures.
Education
Completed study in physics, electrical engineering, eventually applied
mathematics. Taste for numerical work.
