Graduate School: Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program on
Information Management and Market Engineering (IME)
The University of Karlsruhe, Germany, offers from November 1st 2004
6 Doctoral Scholarships and 2 Post-Doctoral Fellowships to applicants with a graduate degree in Economics, Business Administration, Informatics/ Computer Science, Law, or closely related disciplines.
Applicants with other background are given an opportunity to apply for special qualification scholarships.
In addition to an outstanding academic and professional qualification, members of the Graduate School are expected to be fluent in English.
Working knowledge of another language is most welcome.
Doctoral scholarships will be provided at � 1,250.- per month; post-doctoral fellowships are higher depending on the marital status.
Focus of the Program
At the University of Karlsruhe the integration of the disciplines Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, and Law is already addressed in a multi-faculty course of studies and the research program �Information Engineering and Management�. Market Engineering is considered as an essential element of this research program. Therefore, the purpose of the Graduate School is to investigate interdisciplinary and problem-oriented approaches to all aspects of electronic markets, especially the role and power of information.
The following topics will be covered:
information and network economy, game theory and behavioural economics, capital markets, quality and complexity management of electronic markets, P2P, web services and semantic web, spontaneous networks, digital rights management, contracts etc.
Objectives of the Program
Students of the Graduate School learn to comprehend, to enhance, and to evaluate the potential of electronic markets from a broad perspective and to integrate them as solutions for businesses.
Based on their interdisciplinary training students are well able to develop solutions that address economic, business, legal and IT aspects in a well-balanced way after graduation. Within our information society they are thus highly qualified for an academic career as well as for leading positions in industry.
The program is financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and supported by well-known industrial corporations.
