Hoax ini mungkin berasal dari peraturan daerah negara bagian Illinois, Amerika
Serikat SB 562 yang mendefinisikan sistem semacam ini, walaupun tidak
mengharuskannya:
A terminal operated in this State may be designed and programmed so that when
a consumer enters his or her personal identification number in reverse order,
the terminal automatically sends an alarm to the local law enforcement agency
having jurisdiction over the terminal location.
Sistem ini juga tertulis pada rencana peraturan daerah negara bagian Georgia
SB 379 yang belum diratifikasi:
Any remote service terminal operated in this state shall be designed and
programmed so that when a consumer enters his or her personal identification
number in reverse order, the remote service terminal automatically sends an
alarm to the local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the remote
service terminal location. No difference between an emergency transaction and a
normal transaction shall be detectable from the terminal. The operators of
remote service terminals shall be permitted to charge a fee of $1.50 per month
to customers who subscribe to this service.
Dan yang terakhir adalah peraturan daerah negara bagian Kansas SB 333 yang
gagal untuk diberlakukan:
Any automated teller machine operated in this state shall be designed and
programmed so that when a consumer enters such consumer's personal
identification number in reverse order, the automated teller machine
automatically sends an alarm to the local law enforcement agency having
jurisdiction over the automated teller machine location.
Intinya, ada undang-undang yang mendefinisikan sistem semacam ini, tetapi
tidak mengharuskan atau undang-undangnya sendiri tidak atau belum berlaku.
Sepanjang pengetahuan saya, belum ada ATM yang mengimplementasikan sistem
seperti ini.
