text/plain (68 lines) These are words to songs learned in Java (Solo or Bandung) around 1910 by a Canadian singer named Eva Gauthier. She later had American composer Charles T. Griffes set the pieces for piano and voice. She also sang several pieces by a composer named Paul Zeelig, who had spent several years in Java. Does anyone know the provenance of these songs? I am sure that some of the words are wrong! Is the first song in Sundanese? The translations were done by Christine Lemelin, a French Canadian singer who hopes to recreate Gauthier's repertoire, assisted by a Javanese resident of Montreal. 1.
