Dear Colleagues, I am asking for your assistance in identifying highly qualified undergraduate students who are interested in funding opportunities for study at the master’s level in geography.
The Department of Geography at the University of North Texas (Denton, Texas) is accepting applications for teaching assistantships available to students pursuing our Master of Science in Applied Geography. Teaching assistants receive a competitive stipend, comprehensive health insurance, and an out-of-state tuition waiver. Our teaching assistantship funding is intended to support students engaging in full-time graduate studies. UNT Geography provides our students with the ability to apply geographic concepts and techniques to find solutions for some of the most significant problems faced by society today. Our emphasis is on three key themes: human systems and the environment, earth science and modeling, and environmental archaeology, with GIScience being a common linkage among all as well as a unique area of study. UNT has broad interests in urban/economic research and particularly invites students interested in thesis work in this field. We have a target date of January 31 for students who wish to be considered for our departmental funding opportunities beginning in fall 2012. This target date is not the same as a deadline: we continue to accept applications after our target date through to the UNT Toulouse Graduate School deadlines in August. However, students who apply by our target dates receive full consideration for all funding opportunities available in our department. Funding continues to be allocated after our target date until all TA positions are filled. The University of North Texas is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and especially encourages applications from women and minorities. For more information about teaching assistantships or the UNT Applied Geography Master’s Program, please contact Dr. Murray Rice, UNT Geography Graduate Advisor at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>.
