Senior Data Network Engineer 12 months plus Laurel, MD Rate: $48/hr There will be a f2f after a phone screen Role & Responsibilities: * The Senior Data Network Engineer (contractor) is responsible for the architecture and implementation of network communications. * Utilizing his/her extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, the individual in this position will take on responsibilities in areas of administration, engineering, architecture, and project management. * He/she manages and assists in the day-to-day monitoring of the network infrastructure, provide troubleshooting and support, and ensure accurate and up-to-date technical documentation. * He/she will evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and to propose and implement system enhancements to ensure performance and reliability of the data network. * This individual will also define, design, and implement internal and external network solutions and manage technical projects assigned to the team. * He/she will be responsible for tasks related to complex network solutions in data and voice convergence, B2B (business to business) network connectivity, microwave network systems maintenance, and remote access. * Additionally, working with IT Security, the Senior Data Network Engineer will architect and implement required network security infrastructure. * The Senior Data Network Engineer will stay abreast of knowledge in industry trends and best practices in order to develop and support a modern network architecture with a focus on speed, function, security and cost savings. * The individual in this role relies heavily on their experience and independent judgment to develop solutions for difficult troubleshooting, repair and maintenance problems where complete documentation may not be available. * As a senior IT professional, the individual will contribute to achieving the IT Departmental Work Plan and actively supports development and execution of Commission-wide Annual Action Items. Qualifications, Experience, and Certifications: The successful candidate will have experience in operations, project applications, and project management. Some experience in maintaining electronic/communications systems, including microwave systems is desired but not required. The individual we are seeking will satisfy or substantially satisfy all of the following: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related technical discipline, OR five (5) additional years of relevant IT professional experience. * Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in data communications administration and enterprise network operations with demonstrated experience in meeting business user's requirements and SLAs. * Hands-on experience with routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF & BGP), compression algorithms, OSI model, CheckPoint Firewall, HSRP, Cisco IOS, packet prioritization and performance tuning. * Experience in system monitoring technologies (i.e. SMNP, HP OpenView, etc.) and implementing ITIL methodologies to proactively monitor infrastructure environments. * The successful candidate will also have an active industry network certification such as CCNP and/or CCIE Preferred Skills: * Experience with designing and implementing network redundancy and load-balancing systems necessary to support an alternate Disaster Recovery data facility * Experience with emerging voice and data convergence technologies is a big plus. * Hands on familiarity with HP OpenView and SNMP is a plus * Direct experience with network protocol analysis, the Nokia security platform, CheckPoint firewall and HP Network Node Manager (NNM) is a plus * Familiarity with systems automation and scripting technologies is a plus * CCNP, CCDP or CCVP certifications * Cisco "Expert" Level (CCIE) Certifications is a big plus Thanks & regards.......?
