This position provides technical expertise and direction in the design, development, and support of internet-facing server infrastructure. *Job Responsibilities* *% of Time* 1 Operations Responsibilities · Provide and maintain hardware/software support for Linux infrastructure, including loading and patching operating systems, enhancing operating system and application security, monitoring system load and usage, resolving hardware problems, monitoring disk space, adding accounts, etc. · Design and implement highly available, highly-scalable Linux hardware/software solutions for a 24 x 7 server facility. · Configure and maintain large VMware environment(s). · Configure and maintain remote deployment software for large farms of Linux servers. · Design hardware and software performance/stress/load tests and make recommendations based on test results. Following a strict adherence to the scientific method. · Research product and technical data for ongoing projects. 75% 2 Project Responsibilities · Participate in projects, planning, controlling, executing and closing assigned tasks of the project to produce the required deliverables. 15% Communication · Participates in staff and status meetings · Keeps operations/project team well informed of changes regarding status of assigned tasks · Effectively communicates relevant information to management · Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion · Create and deliver presentations to Web Hosting team and management · Communicate with clients regarding maintenance, incidents, and projects 5% 3 Performs other duties as assigned. 5% *Total* 100% *who assigns work to this position? Minimum two years experience, as a network administrator in a heterogeneous environment is a plus. *Knowledge/Skills/Abilities* · *Expert skills* in Linux system administration are required, particularly with RHEL/CentOS 5.x, 6.x, and including experience in monitoring & managing I/O, memory, CPU utilization and tuning. · Expert understanding of Internet technologies is required, particularly in the area of web serving. Using applications such as Apache, · *Solid understanding* of commonly used protocols and services such as SSL, TCP/UDP, WWW, FTP/SFTP, NTP, Telnet, NFS, SSH, LDAP, etc. is required. · Experience administering a large scale DNS environment is required, preferably BIND9 · Experience administering centralized file storage (SAN/NAS) is required. Specifically Netapp, EMC and Isilon storage environments. · Experience administering/building highly available, large-scale systems are required. · Experience with remotely administering Linux/Windows servers in a 365 24/7 lights out environment is required (including working with remote hands in a courteous and professional manner at various datacenters) · Experience with automated configuration management/deployment tools is preferred, particularly puppet and cobbler. · *Understanding* of networking hardware; routers, switches, and load-balancers, particularly Brocade/Foundry and Cisco products is preferred. · Understanding of virtual networking hardware particularly VMware Vsphere, ESXi5.x+ · Understanding of VPNs and firewalls, particularly Juniper products, is preferred. · Understanding of network protocols and architecture (TCP/IP, ATM, WAN, Bridges, etc) is preferred. · Experience with version control systems is a plus. · Experience configuring/maintaining 802.1q VLANs, IGMP, SNMP, DHCP, Layer2/3 switching is a plus. · Programming experience is a plus, particularly web application programming experience. · Familiarity with HP Intel-based (DL series) / DELL hardware is a plus. *Other Requirements* · Experience administering a large, distributed online server facility (minimum 300 servers) preferred · Experience with support for high bandwidth, high availability 24/7 network is required.
