Duties and responsibilities:
- Perform manual review of core production (and related non-production)
databases to determine if environment and configuration are optimal to
support current activities. Responsibilities include:
- Rebuilding indexes
- Regenerating or running database statistics
- Moving logs/indexes/tablespace to separate mount points
- Validating indexes are used and necessary
- Archiving older data
- Recommending optimal backup processes based on business
requirements for non-production databases
- Perform proactive database administration activities. Responsibilities
include:
- Checking tablespace availability
- Checking alert logs, database connectivity, and listener status
- Anticipating/forecasting database storage requirements for upcoming
activities
- Creating scripts/automation for alerts
- Configuring oem alerts and reporting
- Building oem bi publisher reports
- Sql tuning recommendations
- Production and non-production database support during business hours
as well as on call after-hours.
- Create non-production database environments
- Refresh database environments
- Deploy code and data fixes
- Troubleshoot & document database issues
Knowledge and skills:
- Knowledge of database theory and design
- Knowledge of sql
- General understanding of operating systems (solaris, unix, windows)
and storage technologies
- Strong oral/written communication skills; able to convey complex
technical concepts to management
- Good interpersonal skills, able to build consensus and work closely
with multiple staff members
Education and experience:
- 5+ years of experience working in an enterprise production support
environment is preferred
