Role: Test Engineer

Location:San Diego, CA

Duration:1 year

EAD/GC/CITIZEN

 

The engineer will be engaged with the core development team with the 
responsibility 
of certifying and delivering Teradata BAR Storage and utility products that 
work with 3rd party backup applications.  The skills required for the position 
are fairly broad in that the candidate will be able to act as QA and 
Performance 
lead analyst engineer for the development team. The successful candidate will 
perform HW and SW installation and configuration, performance test, tuning 
and analysis, develop and execute test plans & scripts, document procedures 
& test results and assist in defect resolution. The successful individual will 
expected to be a technical team lead for development programs and projects 
including the following scope of responsibilities:

 

·         Act in an engineering lead role to discuss, address, and present 
Teradata BAR performance with internal and external Teradata teams as well 
as customers. 

·         Analyze and troubleshoot Teradata BAR performance issues; 

·         Responsible for delivering BAR performance tuning guidance including 
best practices, sizing and configuration guidelines to the field

·         Responsible for understanding  the parameters for  Teradata BAR 
performance 
leading to an automated tool to model and predict Teradata BAR performance

·         Lead efforts to automate, simplify, and improve overall performance 
characterization testing, tools, process, and procedures.

·         Engage with core development and QA/test team to design, execute, 
analyze and document Teradata BAR benchmark/testing activities.

·         Work with 3rd party BAR hardware and software partners in relation 
to product performance to deliver against roadmap and program objectives.

·         Provide thought leadership on developing software that focuses on 
performance

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

·         Strong demonstrated experience in profiling performance, performance 
analysis and tuning methodologies 

·         Experienced in planning and executing Black Box testing of 
internally-developed 
applications running in conjunction with 3rd party software and hardware

·         Hands-on experience in operating enterprise disk and tape storage 
devices, i.e., Oracle, Quantum, EMC Data Domain, IBM, etc.

·         Strong working knowledge of Storage, Networking & Fiber Channel 
Protocols, 
Devices, Theories and Field Concepts

·         Strong knowledge of Unix shell commands, database concepts and SQL

·         Must be able to test to hardware and software application 
specifications 
including test planning,  usability and device testing

·         Problem solver, motivated self-starter, action and results oriented

·         Knowledge of software engineering practices and metrics

·         Ability to quickly learn and adapt to internal processes

·         Strong interpersonal and communications skill set particularly with 
field sales, services, and customers.

·         Strong technical writing skills

·         Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS  

·              BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or 
related field; 

·              8+ years experience in planning, creation, execution and 
analysis 
of functional & performance tests 

·              Strong Linux Experience including system utilities and tools 
to gather performance statistics

·              Well versed with QA/test tools as well as scripting languages
