Role: Senior Graphic Designer Location: Brooklyn, NY Duration: About 24 Months Interview: Face to Face Job Description: Under general supervision of the Digital Communications Team Lead, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, serves as a senior creative designer. The candidate will be responsible for creating and coding visual systems for the DOE Internet and Intranet and their related brands and sub-brands while maintaining the highest levels of quality, efficiency, consistency, and innovation. He or she will gather project requirements and explore strategic designs. In addition, under close supervision by Department of Education management, the candidate will perform senior creative designer tasks in the following areas but not limited to: • HTML and XML authoring and troubleshooting to support our environment of CMS, .NET, and CSS. • Implementing cohesive and compelling creative, designs for several deadline driven projects simultaneously. • Creating design comps, wireframes, and prototypes independently or collaboratively as needed using tools such as PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign. • Creating and maintaining related project documentation using Axure, Share Point, MAGIC, Word, etc. • Liaising with external and interagency staff members to develop specs and requirements. • Keeping abreast of latest web design technologies including trends in responsive and mobile design. • Writing and editing documentation for web content, browser and design standards including Style Guides and other communications. • Providing detail design specification for their design solutions. • Contributing to the creation of global style guidelines. • Exhibiting a strong understanding of the DOE’s business model and how creative solutions contribute to the DOE’s success over time. • Working with the Operations Group to develop optimal solutions for managing graphics in a changing and growing environment. • Customize new tools such as Telerik RAD controls to ensure that the user interface works with and fits into the DOE design standards. Qualification Requirements: • At least 8 years of experience in a creative group environment in web, print, or multimedia • Online portfolio required • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Excellent HTML and CSS knowledge required. • Familiarity with responsive design and the bootstrap framework required. • Extensive knowledge and experience of Photoshop/Illustrator, Dreamweaver, InDesign, CSS, XHTML, and Flash, Knowledge of JavaScript/JQuery and the ability to work with and edit content with .NET and XML. • BA/BS Graphic Design (or equivalent formal training).
