Role: Data Scientist/Predictive Analyst Location: Pittsburgh, PA Duration: 6+ Months Interview: phone/skype Job Description: 1. Advanced Analytics & Optimization - Responsible for successful delivery of Advanced Analytics solutions and services in client consulting environment; experience in optimization (linear, mixed integer, constraint programming), simulation, and/or predictive analytics using AAO tools, such as R Language, SAS or SPSS. Define key business problems to be solved; formulate mathematical approaches and gather data to solve those problems, develop, analyze/draw conclusions and present to client. Enhance performance by applying advanced mathematical modeling, simulation, data analytics and optimization techniques. 2. Understanding and ability to use advanced statistical techniques (regression, GLMs, GAMs, decision/regression trees, clustering, etc.) 3. Identify opportunities to develop forecasts, statistical models, segmentation schemes, and data-driven analyses to drive business. 4. Discover new opportunities to optimize the business through analytics and statistical modeling 5. Predictive/prescriptive analytic solutions to meet business objectives using statistical modeling (like SAS or R) 6. Proficiency in the use of statistical packages like R, Matlab, SciPy orWeka 7. Experience working with large datasets using tools like SQL, Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig/Hive, Spark/Shark 8. Experience in using statistical modeling 9. Conduct book analysis; build predictive models; and set up loss reserves; 10. Collect data to prepare data sets for predictive modeling using SAS, R, and SQL; 11. Apply statistical techniques to improve and execute predictive models and advanced analytics; and, 12. Perform data analysis using SAS, and R.Strong analytic/quantitative skills 13. Develop predictive models using both existing technologies as well as ones derived from new R&D efforts; 14. 2+ years’ experience in building predictive models in the insurance industry, preferably for P&C commercial lines 15. Strong programming skills including familiarity with SAS. Ability to efficiently and effectively work with large datasets, including internal and external data Required Skills: Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, and Physics, Operations Research or Computer Science and 3 years of statistical modeling/statistical analysis experience in a corporate setting.
