*Role: Network Operations Center (NOC) Operator*
*Duration: 6+ months*
*Location: New York City*

*Description:*

Scope of Work:
Monitor technology centre facilities, servers, storage, backup, network
communications and connectivity
Monitor the data centre support systems such as power, cooling, heating,
and fire detection and suppression systems. Provide problem determination
and level 1 problem resolution.
Monitor ICT equipment and support systems in all technology rooms (TRs) and
LAN closets in the UN Headquarters campus. Perform physical inspections as
needed.
Provide level 1 support to user calls escalated by the service desk, or
after hours acting in the service desk role
Perform batch processing (daily, weekly and monthly), and standardised
maintenance tasks as per documented procedures
Escalate Level 2 problems to appropriate support staff or vendors
Implement mechanisms for Disaster Recovery and emergency operations and
assist in business continuity scenario testing
Provide network cabling (voice and data) services
Maintain inventory of equipment:  add and remove equipment; mount (or
remove) equipment from the racks; dispose of outdated equipment.
Monitor and enforce data centre security and access guidelines
Provide daily status reports on health of the environment to all the NOC
shifts, the Facilities and Infrastructure Unit Head and on an as-needed
basis.  This includes lists of incidents resolved, pending issues like
potential hardware failures/replacements, outstanding tasks, backup status,
disaster recovery environment status and critical performance threshold
violations.
Maintain accurate system configuration procedures, system maintenance
procedures, an updated set of standard operational procedures (SOP) and any
other documentation as required
Record any event for any system that causes interruption of service in
order to be analyzed by the senior network engineer/team leader.
The required services involve shift work (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am). This also
involves working during weekends and on holidays.
Perform other duties as required

*Requested expertise:*

Secondary school education or equivalent technical school.
At least 3 years work experience within a 7/24 Data Centre Operations or
similar Call Centre/Service Desk Operations.
Good technical knowledge of Windows, Active Directory Services, TCP/IP,
Lotus Notes, Unix (Linux and/or HU/UX) and SAN technologies. Good knowledge
of Database Technologies (SQL Server, Sybase, Oracle, etc.).
Familiarity with HP Windows, HP-UX, Sun and Dell servers.
Familiarity with Cisco Routers and switches.
Ability to work in a technically complex computer and network environment.
Excellent telephone manners and good interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.

*Desirable:*

Knowledge of Networking, Wide Area Networking and Satellite connectivity
Knowledge of HP Open View or other monitoring applications and
trouble-ticketing/help desk systems.
Knowledge of Incident and Problem management methodologies
Some knowledge of Voice and Data over satellite
Experience in other computer and communications operations

*Language*

Excellent knowledge of English is required and a working knowledge of
French or Spanish is desirable
