This person needs to understand MySQL configuration, logs, performance metrics, caching, indexing, keys, security aspects etc. Basically he should be very strong with MySQL and should posses the experience in handling performance tuning aspects of the database. He should have experience on Linux platform as clients environment is MySQL on Linux.
