Title: Architect / Director Architect Duration: Long Term Location: NY/NJ *Job Description for Sr. Consultant, Architecture – Utilities:* * * *Dimension & Scope: * This technical Director level position is responsible for providing strategic technical consulting on systems architecture and technology for the utilities industry, as well as participating in business capture activities, and working with new clients to architect solutions that address their business pain points. This position may also oversee Senior Manager Architects / technical consultants within Convergys. *Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * •Lead internal technical teams to develop reference solutions using Convergys products and 3rd party vendor products that can be applied to multiple client opportunities. •Ensure that the product architectures and architecture evolution plans are aligned with the technical architecture direction as well as technology trends of Convergys clients. Provide an assessment back to the Executive Team of gaps that may exist and create an action plan to close them. Participate in external conferences and trade shows to provide the technical background to our product presentations. •Consult with senior Convergys executives on technology trends and their potential relevance to the needs of our clients and impact to our solutions. Architect solutions using any existing reference solutions, Convergys products and 3rd party vendor products that solve specific client’s business problems. •Consult with senior client executives on technical issues relating to strategic due diligence efforts. •Develop systems architecture and new technology position papers. •Provide industry thought leadership on key design decisions, while carefully weighing TCO and timeline/risk impacts •Assist in coaching solutions architects at the senior manager level and below •Develop guidelines on how to present the architecture and technologies of our product line to ensure consistency in client presentations. •Develop and deliver training for development organizations on how to conduct performance benchmarks and analyze the results. •Responsible for establishing and clearly communicating departmental strategy to management team; providing feedback regarding tactical operations for department including budgeting, goal setting, and managing performance; following organization’s policies and applicable legal requirements; determining and implementing appropriate staffing and customer interaction guidelines for work team(s); and monitoring performance leading to successful results. *Education & Professional Certifications:* •Bachelor’s degree in related field from a four-year college or university with fifteen or more years related experience; or •Equivalent combination of education and experience. •Advanced degree desirable. *Utility Industry Experience: * •Deep knowledge of the Utility industry, in particular electricity. Knowledge of gas, water or related areas are nice but electricity is the primary requirement. North American experience is required; EMEA experience a nice addition. •Experience with systems, solution architecture of medium to large utility providers. •Familiarity with the entire CIS footprint in addition to the overall infrastructure. Knowledge of systems with which a CIS may integrate or coexist with, such as GIS, OMS, MDM, AMI, etc. is desirable. •Experience in smart meter or smart grid programs •Experience in legacy (non-smart meter) environments and system support •Experience with leading CIS providers in the utility market Candidate Profile: •Recognized technical expert within and outside of Convergys. •More than fifteen years experience in the architecture, design, development, and testing of high-volume, high-performance software systems. •Systems experience must include real time systems, large-scale batch solutions, high volume on-line transaction processing systems, highly available systems, and secure PCI compliant solutions. •Expert knowledge of industry trends and hands-on experience with UNIX, C, C++, Java, Weblogic, JBOSS, Oracle DBMS, CORBA, COM/DCOM, J2EE, HTML, XML/XSL, MTS, MQueue Series.
