Senior Sql Server DBA Chicago IL Long-Term Contract (6-24 Months) **LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY** **ONSITE INTERVIEW REQUIRED** 1. DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR – 1 opening - JOB SUMMARY The Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Responsibilities also include analyzing, re-engineering, automating, and administering a wide range of database servers and their database environments. These Environments may include Development, Test, staging, QA, Backup and Recovery and Production. The person will have to maintain an understanding of the clients applications and the business functions that utilize these environments. S/he will need strong practical skills in technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, 2000, 2005 and 2008. Additionally skills required include expertise in tuning T-SQL and database structures, XML data stores, SQL Server functions and utilities and ancillary products which included SSIS, SSRS and SSAS. Success will result in a significant transformation of day-to-day requirements of this and other positions through ongoing analysis of database requirements and workflow processes. DESCRIPTION OF POSITION · Assess the current data architecture and develop short and long-term goals for supporting clients business users and the corporate data needs in operational and data analysis and data warehousing. · Provide a focal point for communication with the business users on the status and viability of the existing data environment to support on-going and predicted business needs. · Develop and maintain corporate enterprise data models at the logical and physical levels. · Document data usage and flow requirements and develop value asset management procedures for the organization. · Document internal and external data interfaces and support the adoption of common industry standards to the development of interfaces. · Map data from internal and external locations and develop reference, mapping and profiling documentation for the data. · Recommend data architecture component acquisition opportunities based upon enterprise data needs in conjunction with business and IT management. · Design and develop a data movement support infrastructure that supports the corporate goals for data movement and availability within the organization and complies with the overall IT architecture. · Develop data movement and sharing approaches to support the corporate goal of real-time data interchange between operational and analytical components in the data architecture. · Develop corporate data security standards and participate in data security audits. · Work with business users and application development staff to develop and promote knowledge of the corporate data architecture, data quality, data retention and protection standards. · Work with PMO, QA and Development staff to develop architectural, review disciplines into the change control and testing processes. · Resolve issues where project goals conflict with the corporate data architectural goals. · Monitor performance of corporate systems to ensure that targets for data availability, loading and reporting are met. · Work with development teams to improve timeliness of data delivery, quality and availability. · Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for data disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of all corporate data assets. · Participate in corporate planning sessions to ensure that the physical data storage and support infrastructure can support plans for corporate growth. · Participate in planning and scheduling of data maintenance activities with data management and administration staff. · Conduct research and make recommendations on industry data architecture trends and standards. · Participate in overall business contingency and recovery planning activities. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED · 7+ years information technology experience is required. · 5+ years combined experience installing, configuring, and securing SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008. · B.A. or B.S. required, a degree in a related area (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology) is a plus · Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server database, analytical and reporting structures, theories, principles, and practices. · Significant experience in the development of data extraction and load processes in a heterogeneous platform environment (Data Delivery). · Data base design using Normalization and Star and Snowflake approaches. · Hands-on data audit and forensics troubleshooting experience. · Expert in database backup and recovery processes and procedures. · Excellent verbal and written skills Strong technical documentation skills. · Good interpersonal skills. · Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards and products as required. · Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. · Highly self motivated and directed. · Keen attention to detail. · Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. · Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure 24X7 environment. · Strong customer service orientation. · Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
