*Job Description:         *



A successful UI Developer/Designer at the American Chemical Society will:

•  Confidently translate requirements, use cases, prototypes, and/or
abstract conceptual ideas into inventive visual user interfaces.

•  Create unique and inspiring design compositions using visual design tools
such as Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator.

•  Understand how interfaces like search, CMS, and web services integrate
with dynamic, Web-based applications and be able to appropriately document
the design target HTML for back-end integration by the development team.

•  Be adept at developing HTML or XHTML templates, CSS files and necessary
image assets that meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 guidelines. HTML and CSS
code quality is exceptional, semantically correct and easily scalable.

•  Have experience developing with Flash and ActionScript 3.0

•  Have experience developing in JavaScript / AJAX; libraries such as
jQuery, jQuery UI are a plus

•  Understand the fundamentals of server-side coding such as ColdFusion,
JSP, PHP or Ruby on Rails, and Subversion.

•  Have experience designing and producing print collateral, such as logos,
brochures, posters, etc. using InDesign or similar software.

•  Be detail-oriented with strong interpersonal communication and
organizational skills.

•  Thrive in a collaborative, team environment, but also be comfortable
working independently.



Position application requirements include:

• A portfolio with design samples is required. Samples may include client
work, open source project contributions and personal projects.

• In your cover letter, please answer the following: What design-related
blogs do you read? What emerging technologies do you want to work with?

• You must submit cover letter, resume and Portfolio with URLs and/or design
samples prior to interview. Please include details of your responsibilities
and accomplishments for each of the samples provided. If you worked on the
project in a team, note that and specify what your contributions entailed.
