Candidate should also understand the OS requirements and alternatives when building clustered and non-clustered SQL Server systems. - One has at least basic knowledge of different high availability possibilities supported by SQL Server such as Failover Clustering, Database Mirroring, Replication and Transaction Log Shipping. - S/he understands the different SQL Server security principles such as SQL Server authentication and Windows authentication and can explain how it is applied in the practice. - One needs to understand how different versions of SQL Server are installed and how the service packs, updates etc. are applied. S/he also needs to know how SQL Server services are stopped and started depending on setup. - Candidate needs to know how SQL Server is logging information about the events, job runs, backups, scripts etc. etc. and how this information is made accessible for the database administrator. S/he needs to be able to translate this information efficiently in the practice when resolving incidents, monitoring systems or improving the service quality. - One should understand how databases are created and how default values can be adjusted during the creation of databases or after the creation of databases. S/he can also explain how database access is secured and how logins are created.e should be able to create, edit and explain the Maintenance Plans and what they are used for. - Candidate needs to know how to backup the SQL Server database.* * *Microsoft Windows and Active Directory:* Candidate has proficient knowledge of Windows infrastructures running large enterprises. Needs to be familiar with different versions of Windows starting at least from Windows Server 2003 to date. Strong knowledge and understanding of Windows Failover Clustering is highly appreciated.
