Title: Unix Administrator Location: Columbus, OH Duration: 12-months Rate - $40/hr all inclusive Apex Systems is currently seeking a Sr. UNIX Administrator for maintaining, installing, and configuring UNIX based operating systems. The position requires 24x7 on-call support for production UNIX based systems. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: . Troubleshoot UNIX based hardware and software problems . Monitors systems activities and fine tunes system parameters and configuration to optimize performance and ensure security of systems . Performs capacity analysis, monitors and controls usages of disk space . Develops procedures for routine administration including backup/restore, shutdown, and startup . Provides recommendations for improving the server environment, such as capacity thresholds, security gaps, patch levels and hardware recalls. . Define procedures for monitoring and evaluates, diagnosis and establishes work plan to resolve system issues . Create/maintain scripts used to improve or automate processes . Perform troubleshooting for complex hardware, software and network problems . Coaches more junior level technical staff . Work on multiple activities and projects as a project team member, as a project leader and ensure project tasks for a project are completed on time . Work on complex tasks, projects, activities or support issues . Some travel may be required Prior Experience and Required Skills: . Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or 5-8 years equivalent work experience . At least 5 years experience in working with UNIX based operating systems . Experience with HP-UX and AIX operating systems is a must . Knowledge with PowerVM/VIOS and LDAP is a plus . Experience with Linux based operating systems is a plus . Experience writing Perl, C and shell scripts is a must . Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws (HIPAA and SOX) . Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment . Basic project management skills . Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills . Keen attention to detail . Ability to absorb and retain information quickly . Willingness to work outside of business hours on weekdays and on weekends to support the UNIX environment . Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting experience . Willingness to learn new software, hardware, and technologies in the UNIX environment . Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals . Highly self motivated and directed . Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities .
