*Job Description*
We are seeking a Software Engineer, skilled with PHP, to be part of a
growing team working on a cutting edge Q&A platform. We operate a high
traffic website that is deeply integrated with big-name partners. In this
fast-paced environment, the team works with Product, QA, Operations, and
Analytics to meet business needs. This position is a chance to join a
highly-collaborative agile team working on breaking new ground in the
medical information industry. With new and challenging tasks each day, there
is much room for growth in your domain knowledge and your career.
An ideal candidate will be able to build, test and debug PHP code on a Linux
platform. The candidate should be able to think on a massive scale and write
highly efficient code in an agile environment. Experience with frameworks
and CMSs like Zend Framework, Drupal and Joomla is a big plus. The candidate
should feel comfortable with both front-end and back-end development
emphasizing both PHP core principles and HTML/CSS with JavaScript/jQuery.
Strong analytics skills are desired. This person will report to the
Technical Lead and show initiative in undertaking challenging tasks. The
candidate should be able to follow requirements documents while voicing
his/her opinions on possible improvements and innovations.
*Specific Responsibilities*
Plan functional solutions to complex problems
Implement back-end solutions based on requirements documents using
best-practices approaches
Implement dynamic UIs using HTML, CSS, Ajax and jQuery
Create automation scripts for processing media and text content
Write high performance PHP code using Zend Framework, Drupal or
Joomla, emphasizing efficiency and low-memory consumption
Interface with databases (MySQL and MongoDB) to create analytics
reports
Integrate 3rd party tools including Facebook and Twitter
*Qualifications*
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related field
Proficiency in PHP 5 with 3+ years of professional experience
Strong front-end skills in HTML/CSS/JavaScript
2+ years experience with relational databases (MySQL or MSSQL)
2+ years experience with Zend Framework
Strong knowledge of jQuery
Strong knowledge of Ajax principles and best-practices
Familiarity with basic operations in Linux
Knowledge and experience working in the cloud (specifically using
AWS)
*Desired Traits*
Intimate knowledge of Drupal's and Joomla's inner working
Strong knowledge of PHP 5.3.x
Expert knowledge of Zend Framework
Strong Linux experience including Bash scripting
Proficiency with high-performance queries and stored procedures in
MySQL
Knowledge of Map Reduce principles
Strong knowledge of Java and JSP
