- Database Products such as MarkLogic and ideally Oracle
- High Availability Flexible Replication and Content Processing Framework
- XQuery functions and functionality
- High Availability Clustering Technologies such as Oracle RAC
- Linux and Unix (Solaris) Hardware/Operating Systems
- Disaster Recovery Solutions
- Participate in on-call DBA support rotation; respond to production
emergencies effectively and efficiently outside of normal business hours.
- Technology competencies include MarkLogic and the ideal candidate will
also have Oracle 10g/11g, Oracle RAC, etc.
- Volume Manager software such as Oracle ASM, Veritas, Veritas Cluster
File System, Oracle Cluster File System
- Bottom-line oriented with the ability to push self for results.
Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills. Reporting and
metric production and utilization to support strategic planning and
decisions
- Significant experience (4+ years) as DBA in supporting production
MarkLogic/Oracle database environment.
- Experience in financial industry preferred; demonstrated ability to
work effectively in time- and detail-sensitive environment.
- Bachelor in computer-related field or equivalent experience.
*Responsibilities:** *
- Design solutions that integrate to the segment and enterprise-wide
business infrastructure platform technologies, standards and dependent
services for the McGraw-Hill Companies.
- Assist in the lifecycle of database and replication technologies.
- Ensure the efficient and reliable operation and availability of
production databases
- Lead segment based database design and project activities in support of
business projects.
- Database and Maintenance Utility Implementation
(installation/configuration) based on Build team guidelines
- Database Availability and Performance - ensure SLA compliance for
production and non-production databases
- Database Backup / Recovery / DR
- Execute Dev, QA and Production Database Maintenance
- Participate in Disaster Contingency Planning and Execution
- Perform refreshes of Dev and QA databases
- Production and QA databases design and implementation according to
application requirements
- Proactive and reactive query and database performance tuning
- Apply recommended software patches
- Provide direct developer mentoring and assistance
- Database monitoring, capacity planning Contribute Continual Improvement
to the Database Administration and Implementation

- Continual Improvement to the Database Engineering and Implementation
processes
- Provide input to the Annual Demand Planning process to ensure alignment
with the segment specific goals and objectives.

McGraw-Hill Education, JD Power and Associates, Platt's, Business Week and
others.
- Ensure adherence to assigned project budgets and serve as liaison to
Solutions Engineering.
- Contribute to the development of Database Engineering budget.
- Assist in overseeing the lifecycle of database, replication and ETL
technologies.
