*Job Description:*
*PRIMARY FUNCTION*
This position provides primary support for the Server infrastructure. The
position requires detailed knowledge of server operating systems,
operational tools and other similar systems support software. Working
knowledge of how the infrastructure interacts with Networks, Storage
Subsystems and data base management software principles is required.
*JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES*
• Build and maintain server infrastructure.
• Provide strong system administrative functions.
• Implement and assist with active monitoring of the server
infrastructure. Actively pursue improvements in monitoring to maintain
highest availability levels.
• Recommend and document standards for all primary OS functions.
• Develop and implement processes to automate and standardize routine
engineering tasks.
• Provide in-depth low level diagnostics on all problems or issues
encountered with the infrastructure.
• Monitor infrastructure security, recommend changes to tighten
security and eliminate exposures to undesired intrusions
• Provide technical support to other IT departments and user
organization on relevant technical issues.
• Perform testing of new or upgrades of the operating systems and
system administrative software prior to implementing into the test and
production environments.
• Maintain special assignments of a technical nature and to develop
alternative solutions based upon independent analysis.
• Interface with equipment and software vendors regarding the testing
and support of their products.
• Develop detailed specifications and implementation plans for new
versions of Operating systems and other Systems software.
• Work with vendors to develop, test and implement code changes to
resolve problems.
*JOB REQUIREMENTS*
*Education, Certification, and Relevant Experience:*
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or
preferred
• 3-5 years relevant work experience
• 2 – 3 years of relevant work experience in a production environment
• Strong background and experience with multiple versions of large frame
AIX environment using VIO.
• Experience Solaris Operating System required.
• Proficient with Solaris Zones
• Experience in installation (manual / remote) , configuration,
administration, tuning, and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux Operating system
issues
• Experience on standard UNIX services like SSH, FTP, NFS, DNS, Samba,
Sudo etc.
• Exposure to managing servers remotely using ILOM, KVM and ALOM
consoles.
• Ability to read / customize Shell/Perl scripts
• Good understanding of virtualization, Storage, Network concepts
• Experience in Large enterprises with infrastructures of 200+ servers
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills – English
• Technical writing experience
• Basic Project management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer
focus and demonstrated ability to work in geographically dispersed teams
• Ability to manage competing priorities
• Must have strong computer skills and be proficient in use of
Microsoft Office applications
• Apply logical thought process and ability to learn new systems,
concepts, and procedures
• Must be available to work off hours or shifts as required for
24/7/365 support
*Preferred Experience:*
• Experience with multiple versions Linux and HPUX preferred
• Working knowledge of HIPPA and SOX requirements and methodology to
mitigate exposures to maintain compliancy.
• ITIL Foundation Certification
• Experience with TSM Backups/Restores, NSI Double Take and DFS.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
• Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
• Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer
terminal
• Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office
equipment in the course of normal workday
• Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in
completion of job duties
• Some travel may be required
