*JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*:

•      Setup, configure, and perform day-to-day maintenance and
administration of all of UCOP's enterprise storage and backup
infrastructure. Current software includes SMS, HSM and TSM.

•      Handle day-to-day problems and requests related to Backup/Recovery
and Storage Operations as a 3rd Level Administrator, perform Root Cause
Analysis and continuous

improvement, and act as an escalation point for Level 1 & 2 support teams

•      Create Backup/Recovery and Storage documentation and lead cross
training with other groups

•      Perform performance and capacity management of storage
infrastructure and participate in budget forecasting

•      Develop disaster recovery plans for storage infrastructure

•      Evaluate and recommend vendor products and services

•      Partnership with other Engineering team and vendors for
backups/recoveries, storage configuration and testing during
Proof-of-Concept investigations and product implementations

•      Participate in 7x24 pager rotation and monthly maintenance windows

•      Respond to production issues, implement changes, etc., maintain and
upgrade existing infrastructure.

•      Help determine and evaluate, consolidate and optimize the storage
infrastructure and specify proper deployment means and procedures, and lead
in rollout and maintenance.

•      As needed, the applicant will participate in rotational team duties.



*JOB REQUIREMENTS*:

•      Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management or
science, plus six (6) years work experience as a storage administrator; or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

•      Minimum five years working with enterprise class storage arrays for
mainframe and distributed systems.

•      Minimum five years experience working with IBM Mainframe operating
systems as they relate to storage management and processing

•      Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills as demonstrated
by the ability to interact with others in a consistently positive manner,
exercising discretion and tact.

•      Excellent knowledge of backup/recovery using IBM Tivoli Storage
Manager, VMware VCP backup, VMware Snapshot capabilities

•      Strong teamwork, collaboration, mentoring and project management
skills.

•      Excellent oral communications skills which demonstrate the ability
to effectively convey and explain information, liaise with vendors and
diverse people, situations and ideas.

•      Excellent written communications skills which demonstrate the
ability to draft clear, concise specifications, documentation and reports

•      Strong analysis and decision-making skills with the ability to
conduct briefings and participate in technical cross-functional meetings.

•      Strong knowledge of the following storage hardware:

IBM (DS8300/8100), Hitachi(AMS 2500/2300), SUN (6140/6130) and Cisco 95xx
SAN Fabric family switches.

•      Strong knowledge of NAS/SAN design and implementation

•      Strong commitment to process and understanding of change and
configuration management principles in support of validated environments.

•      Systems administration experience in IBM Mainframe, Sun Solaris, IBM
AIX, SUSE Linux and Windows 2003/2008 Server with emphasis on disk device
management, NFS, and CIFS.

Scripting experience, such as Perl and shell, strongly desirable.

•      Knowledge of IBM Tape Libraries strongly desirable.
