Role: Web Application Developer – PHP/ LAMP
Location:Columbia, MD

Duration:Long Term
Only US Citizens/ Green Cards.
Responsibilities:
The Web Application Developer will be responsible for both front-end web UI 
and web application development, applying their expertise to build a suite 
of market leading products that delight our customers.  General 
responsibilities 
include:
•        Analyze requirements, architect and design solutions.
•        Write, test, integrate, and document software that meets business 
needs.
•        Work within a team environment or individually on projects and tasks 
as determined by the project manager based on business priorities.
•        Analyze, troubleshoot and fix bugs and other problems, working with 
QA and Support as necessary.
•        Follow established department standards, practices, and processes.
•        Provide estimates for work effort and meet agreed deadlines.
•        Actively participate in daily and other periodic status meetings.
•        Communicate risks early and often to team and management. 
•        Collaborate with the team to meet defined goals and provide ideas 
and initiative in the improvement of the processes and tools used.
Required Qualifications
•        2-5+ years experience building, testing, and deploying high quality, 
highly reliable, scalable enterprise web applications and user-interfaces in 
a team environment. 
•        Expertise working in a LAMP and open-source environment, while 
comfortable 
with using and integrating commercial tools and components.
•        Experience with and passion for quality-oriented software development 
best practices including unit testing, automation, continuous integration, 
and low-dependency architectures.
•        Ability to mentor other developers, and otherwise share and 
collaborate 
with peers on best practices, testing, and building in quality.
•        Excellent verbal and written communications skills and be willing 
and able to write documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.
•        Must be a strong coder who takes pride in quality craftsmanship. 
•        Deep knowledge and experience with PHP and PHP frameworks such as 
Zend/CakePHP, etc. including solid understanding of the pros and cons of using 
such frameworks.  
•        Must think critically, be outcome oriented, and constantly strive 
for improving how the team reliably delivers high-quality software.
•        Excellent analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills
•        Expertise with (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript (jQuery), and AJAX.
•        Experience building applications that use REST based web services.
•        Knowledge of cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility including 
knowledge of and ability to solve common associated issues as well as 
investigate 
and troubleshoot complex                 inconsistencies.
•        Experience with version control systems, particularly distributed 
models including Mercurial and Git.
•        Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Desired Qualifications
•        Experience developing custom frameworks appropriate to the business 
and technical needs of the application.
•        Experience leading small teams of developers.
•        Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and other relational databases 
as well as NoSQL type databases.
•        Experience building REST based web services.
•        Experience with messaging protocols including SMTP, SMS, MMS, XMPP, 
Message Queuing.
•        Experience with Perl, Java, C, and other non-LAMP languages and tools.
•        Experience in commercial software products industry.
•        Experience with Lean/Agile software development methods and practices.
