Please include your employer details as well and reply to my email [email protected] <[email protected]>.* *JOB TITLE: Linux/Unix System Admin* *Location: **NY-New York/Nyc* *Duration: 6 Months* *M.O.I Telephonic + Skype* This role requires a candidate with solid communications skills and a deep understanding of infrastructure, systems and system engineering, and coding/scripting. The individual in this role will be expected to synthesize customer feedback, objectives and issues in order to help the customer reach problem resolution. * This individual will be responsible for not only defining and developing technical solutions for our customer, but will also be responsible for advising senior management as to the business benefits of different technical strategies within the context of their stated objectives. *THE DAY TO DAY:* * Engages and collaborates with client employees, consultants, and team members in gaining resolution to critical, complex issues in system design/execution as related to Opscode Chef. This process will require: * Understanding customer objectives and technical strategy * Defining system configuration, deployment, and instrumentation strategy * Diagnosing and troubleshooting problems on-site with the system engineering team, as well as off-site via VPN access. * Performing testing and analysis to evaluate the solution for the discrepancy/deficiency * Leading customer communications, responding to questions on system automation//configuration management/continuous delivery software, including such software's configuration, use, and functionality, and leading resolution of technical issues. * Performs system-level testing and analysis for potential problems for solutions using existing or new versions of Opscode Chef as interfaced with customer hardware, systems, or software. * Define and development custom workarounds when needed using Perl, Python, shell scripts, and/or custom application code. * Takes proactive ownership in identifying and recommending architectural improvements based on information and experience gathered within the customer's environment Required Qualifications * 6+ years experience in Systems Engineering / Administration with firm understanding of Unix/Linux and Windows architectures. * 4+ years experience with system and application services scripting and general programming languages. Additional scripting or programming language exposure and experience a bonus. * Previous experience working in large scale system engineering engagements or in an administrative, consulting or development capacity on an enterprise client or server product. * Passion for learning, collaborating with others and being an all-around customer advocate. * A love for debugging complex technical issues at every level of a modern application stack. * Experience with Chef is required; experience with Puppet and other automation tools highly preferred * Experience with JavaScript, Ruby, Perl, or Python programming is required. * Experience with version control (e.g. git) is strongly preferred * Experience with TCP/IP networking and web services is strongly preferred. * Experience with Oracle Database and proprietary application servers (Weblogic/WebSphere) is strongly preferred.
