I. POSITION SUMMARY 

The Messaging Administrator role is to manage the Microsoft Exchange, Office 
Communicator, and Microsoft Lync environments. Administrative functions may 
include creation of Exchange mailboxes, role based access control, installation 
and configuration of Exchange Servers, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, 
and other duties necessary to maintain a reliable and high performing system. 


 

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

(The essential functions should represent those duties that must be performed 
in the job).

The following are the essential functions of this position. Successful job 
applicants will be able to perform these essential functions with or without 
reasonable accommodation. Regular and consistent attendance and adherence to 
company policies and procedures is required of all employees. Other duties 
within employee's ability as assigned by the supervisor are required and may 
change due to business necessity.

 

1. In-depth knowledge of messaging systems, system administration and 
architecture 
expertise;

2. Installation and Management of Exchange 2010/2013

3. Install, upgrade, tune and troubleshoot Microsoft Exchange, Communicator, 
and Lync.

4. Ability to write Powershell scripts to automate routine tasks and provide 
better customer service is a must.

5. Communicate with other Infrastructure teams such as server and database 
support

6. Knowledge of Microsoft server security and maintenance

7. Knowledge of Active Directory 2003 and 2008 

8. Windows 2003/2008 OS skills;

9. Experience in a geographically dispersed environment

10. Full understanding of DNS, WINS, DHCP and LDAP compliant directories

11. Experience in supporting mobile devices and remote users using Outlook 
Web Access, Windows Mobile/Active Sync, Blackberry 4.xx/5.xx

12. Experience in Supporting / troubleshooting message hygiene issues with 
Exchange, FOPE, EOP, and Microsoft Outlook.

13. Experience in Migrating users between versions of Exchange

14. An in-depth knowledge in SMTP

15. Experience running exchange and other systems in a virtualized environment 
on a SAN.

16. Assist infrastructure and database teams in the requirements definition 
and design of HA/DR, backup/restore, and monitoring 

17. Research and implement solutions for Basis functionality in the areas of 
performance monitoring and tuning and systems configurations, designs and 
implementation.

18. Provide documentation for technical and process related activities.

19. Conduct ongoing monitoring and maintenance to ensure stability and optimal 
performance on all server environments.

20. Keep management up to date on any outstanding production related issues.

21. Participate in On Call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.

22. Provide assistance, document, and training for support personnel (which 
include Help Desk, computer technicians, and trainers), internal/external 
customers, 
and management.

23. Adheres to company software licensing policies and practices.

24. Basic networking skills, with the ability to understand and troubleshoot 
network communication issues, IP addresses, port issues between a client device 
and servers.

 

Skills Required 

College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, 
information 
sciences, or a related field

5+ years' experience as a Microsoft Exchange administrator 

3+ years' experience administrating a clustered, highly available Exchange 
environment

Experience with a 4000+ Exchange environment

Experience managing a Lync 2010 / Lync 2013 environment

Available for occasional travel including international.

Ability to effectively multitask and prioritize the execution of tasks in a 
high-pressure environment.

Ability to conduct research across a wide range of computing issues.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on listening and questioning 
skills.

Additional work hours as required, including weekends.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse and 
to handle other computer components.
