End Client: Xerox
Job Title: AS/400/ iSeries Systems Administrator
Start Date: asap
Duration: 3-6 months
Location: Syracuse, NY

*Overview of the project:*

Our client based in Syracuse, NY is moving an AS/400 from Dallas to
Syracuse in the early July time frame. As they have no staff there now to
manage it. Ideal candidates will need to have AS/400 skills (don’t need to
program anything) just to be on-site in Syracuse, 40 hrs per week ranging
from 3 months up a few more if needed. They will ideally need someone
onsite initially to meet the team. Once they are comfortable there is a
possibility of finishing the rest of the work remotely.

*Duties:*

· Monitoring, Administration and Management of up to 6 LPARs

· System Administration to include OS upgrades when required, PTFs,
Performance Tuning and Capacity Planning, HA etc…

· Operations Support – Console Monitoring

· Backup Management

*Some questions and answers about the project…*

*1. **Are we talking about one or more physical boxes? *

Answer: One physical p770, 6 LPARs, all internal storage.

*1. **Are the 6 LPARS up and running at this time? *

Answer: 1` LPAR is for Test/Dev so not critical. The other 5 run property
record applications for town/county/city governments so need to be up
during business hours. Off hours not as critical, backups done at night.
Very stable box running older homegrown applications, not many changes
being made.

*2. **Do you have a detailed plan of what you are trying to
accomplish?*

Answer: No detailed plan, just operating /supporting / backing up the box
on a daily basis. It has been running in production for 2 years in Dallas
where it has been housed and supported by an internal data center, charging
my customer’s division substantial money to support it so my customer is
moving it to their own facility in Syracuse into a recently renovated data
center that currently has no AS/400 skilled support.

*3. **And if so, does the plan have step-by-step procedures of… What
needs to be done?, How it is going to be done?, Who is going to be
responsible for each procedure?, What are the dates this is going to be
accomplished?*

Answer: Customer is trying to get the server moved to Syracuse over the
July 4th weekend, working now to get their data center prepared as far as
power, cooling, networking, etc. As far as first three bullets- this can
be discussed / negotiated with the customer if they choose to move forward.
