Hi everyone, I'm new to the usability list but it is an issue that interests me and part of the attraction of GNOME to me is its usability over other environments.
I recently filed a bug on GNOME bugzilla about the state of the gdm configuration dialog. Does anyone have any comments or ideas relating to this? http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315916 I personally believe that refocusing on the most common usage would help here. Settings for "local login" should be the standard ones presented to the user, and a separate dialog for remote users (XDMCP) be made available if that feature is enabled. Secondly, I think the graphical greeter/gtk+ greeter thing could be cleaned up by making the gtk+ greeter appear as a "theme" available for selection in the theme selection box, possibly with a name like "Simple Dialog". If that is selected an "advanced" button there could allow more precise control over the dialog. These alone would remove a lot of the clutter which is currently found in the configuration dialog. -- Simon Howard http://www.soulsphere.org/ _______________________________________________ Usability mailing list [email protected] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/usability
