Not really. Versions β37 and later use Spotlight for their searching, but Quicksilver can also do things like file management, clipboard management, calculating formulas, controlling running processes, looking up dictionary definitions, sending files or text to people, doing "fast user switching", pausing/playing iTunes, or anything else for which someone develops a plug-in. (Including running the selected text as a command in the Terminal.) It's not a search tool, it's a general-purpose interface for entering autocompleted commands.
