Can you try firmware update [1]? There are lots of stability and performance fixes listed in several versions [2]. Does the problem occur with native OSS without PulseAudio (i.e. play music in console before Xorg)? Have you played with dev.pcm.N.play sysctls? You may want to set (as root) sysctl dev.pcm.N.play.vchanmode=adaptive to allow runtime changes of the audio channel parameters and see if that helps.
