Thanks Paul, that is a good confirmation that tells me even moree that the problem is with my firmware.
Not a bad idea to get an other CDC ACM device for comparison, I might prefer a PIC18F4550 based device though as I'm familiar with that. Actually, I could just download Microchip firmware there and compare to that...thanks for the idea! br Kusti

So far, nobody has reported any sort of problem like you're describing. Perhaps you should get a board like Teensy 2.0 or Teensy 3.1 or Arduino Leonardo or Arduino Due (all 4 of these have different code bases for CDC-ACM) to compare? All of these products are inexpensive, so buying one of more of them for comparison might be an effective use of your time. If they're stable and your code isn't, maybe you'll be able to discover what's wrong by comparing what they actually do on the USB?
