Has the HID driver maximum performance greatly improved since OS X 10.6?
I asked the following question back in 2011:

I picked one option from Fernando Urbina's advice:
"I'm afraid that you are out of luck with the built-in HID driver:
[ snip]
2. Write a userland driver (and a codeless kext to prevent the
IOUSBHIDriver from grabbing your device) that issues multiple reads."
In recent tests with Mavericks I seem to be getting very similar results
with the HID driver that I was only able to achieve before by bypassing it.
Has there been a speed increase in the HID driver?
If so, in which OS X version did the improvement appear?
