As far as I know, USB Prober works on El Capitan, I’ve used it extensively. You have to install it from I-can’t-remember-which hardware tools package. The kernel extension should be required only for the USB Logger tab, but we don’t have any log enabled, and the only logging tool is the ugly usbtracer tool inside USB Prober.
