I'm not sure where's the right place to ask this question, and I realize it's not really a development question, but I'm hoping we'll look out for our own on this one.
I have the Bose QC35 noise-canceling bluetooth headset. It can connect to more than one device. It worked very well at first, but lately (since macOS Sierra, I think) has been giving me issues (especially since 10.12.2). Half the time it won't re-connect. It'll try, but fail. Lately it's been connecting more reliably, but suddenly it seems to switch from high-quality audio without microphone, to what I think is mobile phone headset mode. In this latter mode, the audio quality is abysmal, with lots of noise. It also turns on the side channel, so the QC35's internal microphone is piped into the headset, as you would want for a phone conversation. It seems to arbitrarily enter this mode, although most recently it did shortly after I launched some screen recording software (edit: quitting that software restored proper audio). When this was happening before, I didn't have any unusual audio apps running. Nothing in the standard UI shows any indication of how to switch modes. Changing the selected audio output device has no effect, but changing the input device seems to trigger it (if I change to the headset). As I write this email, I'm wondering if this really isn't a problem with the headset (perhaps it enters crappy mode when the microphone is enabled). Seems like a glaring oversight from a company that prides itself on audio quality. In any case, does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to see what kind of audio connection is employed a bluetooth device connection?
