Datagrids aren't "real" controls like the others, they are scripted groups written by a third party, and were later added to the tool palette for convenient access. So while they appear to be part of the engine, they're actually a little more like plugins or add-ons.
That doesn't excuse the lack of integrated documentation, but maybe explains it.
