I did it the other way around (just last month!) I set up a VM (Parallels) for running Catalina for older 32 bit apps. I was primarily trying to get my older Adobe CS6 apps to work… though even with all the original disks (and a drive), reinstalling ancient apps turned out to be more problematic than I had hoped. So maintaining your current install and doing a VM for 64bit makes more sense to me now. -- Scott Morrow
