which is merely repeating the thread's whole point -
Meet the LiveCode EULA and FAQ! Read and learn.

quoting EULA and FAQ again, with links again, as before ...

Kill switch details; it's even worse than I remembered.

"Apps require active [LiveCode Create] licensing to run.
If your license lapses, your apps will no longer be licensed
and they will not continue to run."

Built Apps - not 'continue' to run?

Riko Abadi:

> This means already-built apps are permanently dependent on ongoing
> license renewal just to execute... Under the current terms, LiveCode
> Create is not a viable option for serious, long-lived applications.

Rick:

> I sure hope the people at LC seriously reconsider what they are

Runtime execution rent, ongoing = fragile Toy Apps.

subject to renewal, whim, outage, billing, or glitch.
much more so than just using hosting or data.

Alex Shaw:

> Does this mean apps created in Classic Create
> also stop working if the license is not renewed?
> As a hobby programmer from the MC days this is very disappointing.

good question. likewise for LC10.
Create license allows Classic Kill switch -

"2.3 ... Any purchase of LiveCode Create automatically
applies this EULA to ... LiveCode Classic."

but is Kill switch tech lurking in Classic?
strong monthly version precedent in Classic license -

"2g) Where the LiveCode Software has been purchased on
a monthly subscription, Created Software will only
operate while the subscription is current."

Craig Newman:

> I cannot fathom the idea that one can build an app,
> using a program that one has a subscription to ... and then be
> REQURED to maintain the subscription in order for that app to run.

precisely.

an evaluation said "you should NOT accept this as-is" -
I agree; impossible until several issues improved.

Dev tool licenses are required to build, compile, or deploy.
Lapsed licenses typically Disable updates, new builds, support ...

but Existing, already-built apps keep running.
That’s why they are 'built' apps!

huge step backward -

I will not follow that wayward direction;
my future plans include robust apps and clear ethics.

Nor let future projects get locked down to 1 tool.
Nor be slandered as unruly for pointing out obvious problems!

window is closing to fix LiveCode pricing/terms issues.
LiveCode Classic - '2027' end of life.
people have been retooling elsewhere.

LiveCode recently requested my feedback to help improve LC.
so ... hope this requested advice improves LiveCode Create.

Happy Holy-days of Christ's Mass!

Best wishes,

Curry Kenworthy
