The future of LiveCode, and HyperCard users - Managing risk

Stephen Goldberg:

> 1. A “LiveCode Lite” track for non-programmers.... my book
> LiveCode Lite: Computer Programming Made Ridiculously Simple.

Just to clarify - Yes, great for learning / starting! Interesting.
NOT as a locked/restricted IDE or price trade; that would harm.

Andrew Meit:

> There will never be another HyperCard as Bill A. envisioned;
> I have to accept that fact...

Great industry history views, but no -
It's no longer up to the billionaires club to decide!

And LiveCode should do the right thing;
But if they don't, take heart; others will ...

They already are! I could resume a project, too.
Great things will come from humble teams.

Meanwhile ...

Managing risk! Subscriptions are fragile;
But I always counted on LiveCode stability.

Lesson learned. Very vulnerable -

IDE subscription to build = Moderate risk, normally.
But much bigger, for us; Rare language.

For me - Sudden LiveCode change + illness was a big problem.
I realized the giant risk; I use a custom AAC, etc!

For handicap. Imagine that cut off -
I'm sure some others in same boat.

IDE subscription switch; and now Runtime kill switch?
Not workable. Not safe. Not acceptable.

So take heed -

Luckily we also have plenty of blessings:

1. Backup IDE - LiveCode Community version!
Must have. More info/options later. And ...

2. Backup language - whatever you can read best!
JavaScript is the most popular language.
Or Python, BASIC, or the newer ones.
AI can help code, for now -

I know, I know! But - This is temporary.
Greater things will come!

Most languages are free, or cheap to start.
No kill switch or EULA headaches. No limits.

The HyperCard type of dream will expand -
Among other dreams. Managing risk, meanwhile.

Bright future / new year...

Best wishes,

Curry Kenworthy
