Assuming you are doing this on macOS (which I'm guessing you are, given preview could generate PDFs!).

Does the stack you are printing have fonts explicitly set on the fields or at the stack level? If not that could be the issue...

At least for the pdf printer, the default macOS font is some sort of strange font which doesn't have a proper name (.blahblahblah) and appears not to like being poked in the way needed to print. If you set the textFont of the field/stack to a font name (i.e. non-empty, and one which exists) your formatting problems might go away.

Failing that - if you submit a bug report with the offending stack, we can take a look.
