I'm not familiar with Google Contacts but .csv or vCARD formats are known text 
formats. You can easily see what they look like but they are tedious to deal 
with.

Is it that you now have the information in Google Contacts and want to export 
it into a LC app you are writing? InfoWallet has the ability to import and 
export vCARD format. If you can export from Google in vCARD format try 
importing it into InfoWallet (say the Contacts section). If that works I can 
send you the code I use or you can try Andre's library which looks pretty nice. 
The free trial version of InfoWallet can import records but not export them. 
This way you can see if it is going to work.

I prefer TAB delimited records over CSV because it is common to have commas in 
real records but rare to have tabs. CSV forces you to escape out commas so it 
is a little trickier.

The Address Book in both Macintosh and Windows also have the ability to import 
and export contacts via vCARD and other methods too. You could also try those.
