I spoke too soon: All transparent pixels in these images ignore mouse events IF the image is directly clickable; however, if the image is attached to a button as an icon, the button responds to mouse events anywhere in the rect of the mouse.This isn't the case with transparent GIFs and PNGs, at least in MetaCard. All transparent pixels in these images ignore mouse events, so you can indeed have irregular regions that respond appropriately to mouse clicks.
