I don't want the user to be able to click in the "main" window until the app is ready, however.Some ideas:
You can change the cursor or make an image visible during this period.
You can flushEvents at the end of openCard. If openCard actually starts a send sequence for this period or you need to do waits with/for messages, you might need to screen mouse events with a front script.
