popup and background reference

I think I'm still having trouble with background.

I have this script in a graphic:

on mouseDown
popup button "Hidden Popup" of background "Hidden"
end mouseDown

This works fine if the group containing the popup button is on the same card but does not work if it is not.

What am I doing wrong?
